The top 10 things (good and bad) that have happened in our family since our last post:
10. All four hens now lay eggs! Because of the limited daylight hours (aka Winter), our hens give us an average of 2 eggs a day. During the Spring and Summer, we will expect 3-4 eggs a day. Also, the eggs will increase in size as the hens continue to mature (over the next year.) We love our chickens!
9. Lafayette turned cold! 40-50 F doesn't seem bad when there is little to no humidity, but the cold quickly penetrates to your bones when the humidity is above 50%. Add a brisk wind, and it's freezing! We now wear long-sleeved shirts and socks around the house. (Next week should be warmer.)
8. The end of year Primary scramble began (i.e. Christmas activities, teacher in-service/appreciation meetings, teacher packets/materials put together for next year, room decorations, budget requests, date requests for the ward and stake calendar, etc.) Give your Primary president a hug of appreciation when you see her next.
7. Note was neutered. Poor kitty. He's still pretty feisty, though.
6. Aisling came down with a nasty respiratory virus. Her asthma makes any illness worse than normal. Throw in a bad cough and a fever, and you can imagine how she's feeling right now. She and Note are both currently recuperating on the couch.
5. Black Friday madness struck our home. Did you know that most retailers offer the same in-store loss leaders on their websites during Black Friday?! And free shipping to boot! Woohoo! This year, I only had to physically drive to one store, because I couldn't pass-up a color laser printer (only $67 total after tax and rebate!)
4. Trevor came home from Brazil for Thanksgiving! Of course, we had planned it that way, but our plans hardly ever go the way we want them when it comes to Trevor's crazy work schedule.
3. We're almost absolutely certain that Trevor won't be going back to Brazil because...
2. Trevor lost his job.
Yes, it's sad. But not that sad. This is the third job we've been through since moving here over two years ago. Unlike some areas, this area is an unsteady place in regards to work. Major companies here have no qualms about laying people off (or just firing them) during slow times, and then rehiring when demand picks back up. You learn to plan for these downturns after a while. The first time, I freaked-out until he found another job. The second time, I was worried, but mostly just sad. And this time...I was almost...relieved. Strange, but we both feel like this needed to happen. In the middle of the worst recession in years (where finding another job is likely to be much harder than before), we feel at peace being jobless. Go figure.
1. We are planning a wonderful and peaceful Christmas in our home together. We will celebrate our third Christmas in Louisiana, and our second Christmas here with Trevor. In the past few years, we were never certain or guaranteed that Trevor would be home for Christmas, even if he was scheduled to be home. It's nice to not have to worry about him being gone. And he doesn't even have to go into work the day after either! We truly feel blessed.
