Trevor and I have a firm belief that birthday presents should be earned, not handed-over freely! So, on Thursday, October 23rd, Elizabeth and Katie Awbrey joined Aisling on her birthday present treasure hunt. (Wow! Elizabeth sure has a talent for crossing her eyes.) The instructions? Simple. Every clue you find leads you to a present plus another clue, and thus, more presents and clues. Some clues were solved quite quickly, while others took vast amounts of time to figure out. But there was a twist this year. The final treasure (present) was located in a spot so secret, so hidden, that it took putting a puzzle together and reading the clue to its location on the back of the completed puzzle! After all of the clues were solved and the presents gathered, it was time to open the presents and distribute the loot (faithful friends who search with you should be rewarded.) The end result? Lots of fun, giggling, and a very happy birthday girl!

Grandma's house always brings back memories of being ten years old. I don't remember many specifics (our family visited often), but I do remember the feelings of warmth and love, the good food (Grandma cooked, baked, and canned), digging in Grandpa's garden for fresh carrots and turnips, and the awe of roaming free in the hills and small streams surrounding Grandma's house with my cousins. I also remember the tree house that Grandpa build for us grandkids. We spent hundreds of hours playing house, store, and hide-and-go-seek. Grandpa rebuilt this tree house a few times over the years (we grandkids loved it so much, we wore it out multiple times.) Our children now claim the tree house as their own when we visit.

Sorry for the long lapse in blogging; we're just recovering from our vacation to Utah. Today is Aisling's 10th birthday, and so we are busy making a cake (cheesecake, to be exact), running errands, and planning a big treasure hunt (no one should be HANDED their birthday presents, right?) Can you believe my little girl is TEN?! Tomorrow, I will post pictures from the vacation, and hopefully pictures of the long-awaited (by Aisling, at least) birthday treasure hunt!
